The Mackinder Kiondo Women’s Self-Help Group brings together 40 women with the aim of alleviating poverty and empowering themselves and their families. The group has two major goals, uplifting members through small loans and making of traditional baskets, or kiondos, from local and recycled materials. The owl project supports these women and is presently assisting them in marketing and selling their kiondos.

The Mackinder Youth Group brings together young, enthusiastic and educated men and women who are undertaking conservation projects within the community. In addition, they are writing grant proposals to fund members’ participation in environmental training courses.
